MUSICAL STARS OF THE 40’s PREMIERE

We are going to have a PREMIERE at the BVCC and YOU are invited. Our friend, Dale Kuntz, film historian, is putting together a new show of clips featuring musical stars of the1940’s and he is going to Premiere at the BVCC.  You are going to be the first to see the presentation.  We will have lunch and then you will walk the “blue carpet” to room C for the film presentation.  You will be transported to the 40’s when “Stars were Stars” and everyone contracted to a studio was in a musical.  Make sure you sign up early for this presentation as it will be popular.  (Social hour runs from 11 am – 12 noon. Please don’t come before 11 am as the dining room won’t be ready and we have no waiting area.)

ICE CREAM SOCIAL BINGO!

Today we are going to have an ice cream social followed by Bingo. We are pleased to announce a partnership with SLPT, Southern Lakes Physical Therapy, an outpatient, orthopedic physical therapy clinic located in Bay View. William Lois, Doctor of Physical Therapy and President of SLPT is committed to providing programs to enable older adults to maintain a healthy productive life. He has worked with us to bring a low cost exercise program for seniors to Bay View.
Class meets for 1 hour, twice a week and offers stretching, movement and aerobics.  Paula Ortega, our instructor is a massage practitioner from Southern Lakes Physical Therapy.  In addition to massage therapy, Paula assists patients with their physical therapy exercises.  She is anxious to work with you in class.
Class meets twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday.  You can start the class at any time.  We always welcome newcomers. There is no contract or membership fee and you pay just $2.00/class You don’t pay for the days you don’t come. So if you the grand kids are coming for a week or it is snowing out you won’t lose any money. There is no commitment, no contracts just a comfortable place to exercise under a trained instructor.

Are you looking to have good conversation, have fun and meet new people?  It is time to get out of the house and “Share the Wisdom”. Come join this incredible group of active and informed people.  Engage in the Lively Art of Conversation at Share the Wisdom.  The group meets weekly so people can come together to discuss all kinds of interesting topics.  New people are welcome at any time. You don’t have to come every week -  only when it fits your schedule. Come to talk and share your ideas or come to listen and think.  You can come alone or with another person. There is just one rule: Only 1 person can talk at a time!  This group will make you laugh, make you think and introduce you to new people and ideas.  We are waiting for you.   There is no cost for this program; we just need you to fill out a registration form.

Our friend, Dale Kuntz, film historian, is here for a special afternoon  - Lunch and a Movie . Today we are going to watch in glorious Technicolor the 1952 remake of “The Merry Widow” starring the beautiful Lana Turner as the Merry Widow and Fernando Lamas as the handsome Count. The film is MGM Studios at it’s very best, when musicals and romance were fantasy on film.  The film was nominated for Oscars for best Costumes, Art Direction and Set Design. You will love this presentation of “When Movies Were Movies.”  Lunch will be served at noon and then we adjourn to the BVCC Cinema (Room C) for this delightful film. Oktoberfest is a time that people get together to share food, fellowship and fun.  Join us for the BVCC’s Oktoberfest. We’ll have beer (root), pretzels, a German themed luncheon and great entertainment by the 4 Seniors.  The 4 Seniors are 4 delightful ladies who perform on the spoons, harmonica and accordion. They are so much fun and you can sing-a-long with them as they perform your favorite songs.  To make our Oktoberfest complete they are even going to play a couple of Polkas.  This is going to be a great time – Join us and celebrate Oktoberfest.  (Social hour runs from 11 am – 12 noon. Please do not arrive before 11 am as we have no waiting room.)

FLU & PNEUMONIA SHOTS

Pneumonia shot also covered by Medicare B & Medicaid; otherwise $ 45   .
It is that time of year to again protect yourself from the Flu and Pneumonia.  The Center is collaborating with the Visiting Nurse Association to make it easy for you.  No Pre-registration is required.  People are served on a first-come, first served basis.  Bring your Medicare Card and there is no charge. Medicare B covers the cost and we provide you a free cup of coffee.  You won’t have to wait in long lines like at the super-market.   We have chairs set up for you to sit while you wait plus we’ll give you a cup of coffee.  This is a quick and easy way to get your flu shot this year. (Costs were current at press time June 2010. They are subject to change.  Call 414 482-1000 after Sept 1 to confirm cost.)
