In the early 1800s groups of people from Europe traveled to America to start a new life including Norwegians, Swedes and Fins. Most were farmers by trade. They fell in love with the land in central Wisconsin because of the rich soil and cool weather like back home. They brought with them their skills, customs and cuisine. Today we experience it all.

The day begins with FREE PARKING and 7:30am BREAKFAST BUFFET. At 8am our COACH BUS (restroom on board) leaves for Thunder Valley – the Nelson Family Farm and Homestead in Newport Township near the Dells. For more than 40 years Mom and Pop Nelson and their family have shared their Scandinavian heritage by providing traditional celebrations.

At 10:30am we arrive with a MEET’GREET and some refreshments before Anita starts the BREAD-MAKING DEMONSTRATION. Learn how they grind the grains into flour in the 60-yr. old Mormon-built grinder; touch and taste the wheat berries; learn how to knead the dough and shape into loaves for baking. At the end, everyone tastes the bread with butter and homemade jam and tries Lefse (flatbread). You will take home a FREE LOAF OF BREAD at the end of the dinner.

While the tables are being set for the Thresher’s Dinner, visit the farm animals, tour the B&B or browse the Gift Shop. When you hear the DINNER BELL head for the house for THRESHER’S DINNER (all homemade dishes made from local food items): CHICKEN ala KING; crisp GARDEN SALAD or homemade COLESLAW; autumn VEGETABLES; Anita’s  fresh  out  of  the  oven WHOLE GRAIN BREAD with STRAWBERRY-RHUBARB JAM; Coffee/tea/farm fresh Wisconsin Milk and a scrumptious DESSERT like pie, cobbler or crisp. And, like any good farm hand, you can ask for seconds!

As you sit back and relax enjoy the Nelson Family SHOW featuring singing, fiddling, stories and songs along with the wholesome comedy of Ole and Lena “yolks” (jokes) and a singalong finale. (FYI: There is no smoking anywhere on the grounds or buildings.)

At 2:45pm we leave for Wisconsin's cheese chalet - ELLERBACH'S CHEESE CHALET in DeForest. Looking like an old Swiss chalet and conveying the charm and warmth of Wisconsin this family owned business for almost 50 years has been offering cheeses, sausages,, jams & jellies and much more. We will SAMPLE cheeses, etc.while SHOPPING.

At 4:45pm we leave with TREAT BAG & BEVERAGE and RAFFLE PRIZES arriving in Milwaukee at 6:45pm. (This is an exclusive trip only offered by the Center.)
