CÉSAR CHÁVEZ ART CONTEST

Join us as we partner with the Marcus Performing Arts Center (MPAC) to celebrate the life of César E. Chávez!

From March 3rd - March 13th, stop in to BVCC's Family Resource Center between 8:30am-2:00pm to create art for MPAC's César Chávez Art Contest! Read below for all the details.

HOW IT WORKS

  • From March 3rd - March 13th, stop in to BVCC's Family Resource Center anytime during regular FRC hours (between 8:30am-2:00pm)
     

  • The FRC will have art supplies available that you can use to create your art piece here, OR grab a take-home art kit to create on your own time!
     

  • Art submissions are due back to BVCC no later than Thursday, March 13th.
     

  • BVCC will submit your art to MPAC on your behalf, and enter you in the contest!

SUBMISSION RULES

  • Children of any age can submit their art - from Kindergarten through High School
     

  • Pieces must be created entirely by the child alone.
     

  • Size requirement is 8x10", 9x12", or 12x18"
     

  • All flat art mediums are accepted, including but not limited to:
    - Drawings (marker, pencil, oil pastel, charcoal, etc)
    - Paintings (watercolor, tempura, acrylic, oil, etc)
    - Collages (from magazines, your own drawings, photographs, etc)
    - Printmaking (stamping, plates, carvings, etc)
    - Digital (any program or app; AI-generated pieces are not allowed)

     

  • Pieces can contain images or a mixture of both images and text.
     

  • Pieces must reflect the Contest Theme. The Contest Theme is:
    "A Preference to Help the Most Needy
    A concerted effort to support programs that reach and empower those facing the greatest challenges, ensuring that no one is overlooked or left behind, no matter how difficult the challenge that choice may bring."

JUDGING/WINNERS

  • Winners from each grade group will be announced and showcased at the Marcus Center's César Chávez Celebration Event, April 6th at 4:00pm.
    All participants and their families are welcome to attend the event!

     

  • Three winners will be chosen from each grade group:
    - Grades K-2
    - Grades 3-5
    - Grades 6-8
    - Grades 9-12

     

  • Winners announced during the event will receive a commemorative plaque.
     

  • Winning artworks will be used to beautify bus stops on S. César E. Chávez Dr!

WHO WAS CÉSAR CHÁVEZ?

César E. Chávez, a Mexican-American activist, was a champion of migrant farm workers' rights and working conditions. Chávez's non-violent movements in the 1900's led to better wages and working conditions for farmworkers - including many in Wisconsin!
